Jason was born on Thursday 30th May 1974 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia to parents Barbara and Stephen Bendon. Stephen left shortly after Jason’s first birthday leaving Barbara to raise Jason on her own. Working 2-3 jobs at any one time and living in Elizabeth Park, South Australia, Barbara enrolled Jason at Elizabeth Park Primary School to begin his schooling life.
Barbara married her second husband, Roger Nelson in 1982 who subsequently adopted Jason when he was 8. This prompted a move to a new family home in Clearview and Jason transferred to Northfield Primary School. He then went onto Nailsworth High School to complete his schooling.
Jason loves his sport. He was a key defender for Enfield Hockey Club in the mid-late 1980’s and was playing U17’s when he was just 13. He went on to play a lot of cricket, tennis, squash, badminton and football but ultimately settled on Golf and Volleyball. He played State League Volleyball for Tea Tree Gully and went on to play State League for the Brisbane Dragons and later, Masters for Queensland.
Jason actually started working at the tender age of 11 at a small family business; Thompson Bag and Metal Merchants in Cavan where he would count cans and bottles for recycling on weekends and School holidays. He also loved helping his Stepfather and Grandfather, Keith “KK” Nelson build warehouses for the family business, Nelson Properties Pty Ltd with a large portfolio of land and small warehousing facilities in Wingfield. He also had the “typical” paper round delivering the local newspaper and then went on to undertake a night-fill position at Woolworths in Northpark when he was 15.
Jason started his full time career at NWS Channel 9 in Adelaide then went on to secure a Warehouse traineeship with Plumbing World. When Reece acquired Plumbing World in 1997 just quickly moved through the ranks and was ultimately asked to transfer to Perth, Western Australia to take on the role of Product Development Manager.
After achieving great success in Perth, which included absorbing the role in South Australia and Northern territory, Jason was offered a role with Phoenix Plastics in Brisbane as National Sales & Marketing Manager. This afforded Jason the opportunity to spend 4 month in Europe to familiarise himself with the companies products, which included 3 months in Milan, Monza and Udine in Italy, a country that remains close to Jason’s heart today. Upon his return to Australia, Jason set-up in Brisbane and quickly made his mark with key building and construction professionals nationally working with Architects, Facilities, Specifiers, Builders and Plumbers to develop new products and provide technically sound engineering solutions.
2004 saw an opportunity arise to partner with Fast Flow Group based in Singapore and he subsequently co-founded and Managed Fast Flow Australia opening their first office in Brisbane. Over the next 8 years, Jason opened offices in Sydney and Melbourne and grew the company exponentially into one of the leading rainwater management companies in Australia.
Jason married his long term partner, Marianne (Mez) in 2010 in a beautiful ceremony with his closest friends and family in Positano on the Amalfi Coast in Italy and shortly after welcomed their first child Chloe in 2012, which coincided with their move to Bangkok, Thailand for a key position with ChindAsia Lifestyle Group. Upon returning to Australia in 2014 and shortly after welcoming their second child Chelsea, Jason started his own consulting company specialising in Business mentoring, leadership, strategic planning and sales training and helping SME’s develop strategic growth plans. In 2017, Jason was offered the position of CEO of AusPress (then Blucher Australia Pty Ltd) which he still holds today.
Over the past few years, Jason’s expertise and experience has been called upon frequently to assist many companies and organisations in growth strategies and to join Boards to offer his skills in Governance and strategic planning. He served 2 years on the board of Volleyball SA and is currently Chair of the Governing Council at Prospect Primary School, Chair of the Board for Lincoln College and on the WS-014 Committee of Australian Standards.
Jason now lives in Prospect, South Australia with his wife and 2 daughters, a dog and 8 chickens and is committed to his family, his friends, his community and his career. In his spare time, Jason enjoys a round of golf and spending quality time with his family.
